Since Kick-Ass is becoming a film pretty soon, there’s been a lot of talk about it in podcasts that I listen to. I’ve also seen a pretty aggressive trailer campaign, including hype for the “red band” (rated R) trailer online, which looks pretty dope, in a silly Kill Bill meets Superbad kind of way. A friend just happened to recommend the comic, as well, which she owned and just finished reading, so I borrowed the set. Thus far, it’s only eight single issues, but once I started reading, I didn’t stop.

Cain and Abel gave me this graphic novel to read. It’s an alternate take on Gotham in a story that encompasses the Joker’s release from Arkham Asylum, as told through the perspective of one of the Joker’s henchmen, looking to make a name for himself. The book contains almost no Batman, and rarely even references him.

I loved both World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. I bought the Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks on reputation alone. It’s a graphic novel that tells a few unrelated stories of “real life” zombie attacks throughout history, starting with early man’s first encounter, as hypothesized through interpreting cave paintings, to modern run ins, passed off as viral outbreaks.

The Walking Dead is the only comic I read in which I’m current. I wasn’t with it from the beginning, but have since picked up all of the soft-cover compilations, including the most recently released Volume 10. It has just been picked up as a potential TV series for AMC and I’m excited for the prospect.

I read The Death of Superman not too long ago, and had complaints about the convoluted storyline. I decided then that I wanted to give All Star Superman a shot, to get a different take on the superhero. After reading this new take on Supes, I leave thinking that I might not be as big a fan of Superman that I thought I was. The book is competent and interesting, but I don't see myself continuing, because I'm finding myself being attracted to more grounded storylines, even with my capes and cowls.
